Sussex had a great team competing in the South East
Region of the Inter County Masters. It was an exciting
and close contest throughout. Considering a number of
swimmers were missing due to illness and for various
other reasons they did amazingly well.
Sussex only had one swimmer in the Men’s 25+ age group,
so well done to Christopher Luesley for taking part, and
in particular to Martin Trott who gallantly swam down an
age group into the 25+ to get the points.
We extend our thanks to our younger swimmers in the 18+
group who were experiencing and taking part in their
first Masters competition. They all performed
brilliantly.
Mai Alland, Katherine Harris, Zara Williams, Rachael
Bowen (who came down from Loughborough to take part),
Christopher Ruxton, Jonathan Blyth, Samuel Webb, James
Lawton
Sussex had 7 first places.
The Women’s 4X50m 72+ Freestyle relay
The Women’s 4X50m 100+ Freestyle relay
The Women’s 4X50m 180+Freestyle relay
The Women’s 4X50m 72+Medley relay
In the individual races we had 3 first places.
The Women’s 18+ Freestyle Zara Williams
The Women’s 18+ Breaststroke Mai Alland
The Women’s 35+ Breaststroke Sharon Burchell
We also had 2 X 2nd places and 6 X 3rd
places, with some very close finishes. Well done to all
swimmers, we are very proud of you.
It would never have gone so smoothly without the help of
Jose Adams and Judith McKercher who did a brilliant job
with the registration and writing the competitors cards,
all 69 of them! Marion Cormie, Mark Webb and Russell
Williams gave up their time to officiate. Russell also
stepped in to supervise our lane in the warm up.
The parents also turned up trumps getting the swimmers
to the venue on time. Everyone interacted with each
other, no one was more important than anyone else. It
just all added up to an excellent team, which they were.
