Sussex County Junior Synchro Competition 2019
St Mary’s Pool, Brighton. 8th December
For most junior synchro swimmers in Sussex this was the first competition they had been able to enter or attended a grading day before. The aim of the competition was to introduce our junior swimmers to these environments in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The competition was not licensed and the format was designed to meet our County development objectives.
There were 40 individual entries plus a solo, duet and three teams. The youngest swimmer was 7 and the oldest 18. Medals were awarded for seven events.
In the individual figure competition the swimmers were given experience of how to do a grading day figure (one judge and a mark book) and a competition figure in front of multiple judges (although in a bigger competition there would be up to five judges per figure). In the routine competition marks are awarded for difficulty, execution and artistic impression. Again, in a larger, licensed competition there would be a lot more judges!
You can find out more about how figures and routines are scored on the Swimmming.org and FINA websites.
